Gangying Hui,PhD, Doctoral Supervisor, Professor in Institute of Forestry, Chinese Academy of Forestry.1996-1998PhD studies at University of Gottingen. Receiving Special Government Allowances of the State Council since 2000.Several prizes have been won: Second Class Award of Science and Technology Prizes of Ministry of Forestry in 1999 (as the second co-author); 2nd Prize of the National Science and Technology Advance Award in 2000 (as the second co-author); The 21stInternational Union of forestry (IUFRO)Outstanding Doctoral Research Award (ODRA) in 2000; Alexander von Humboldt Research Scholarship in 2001 and became one of the several Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellows in the area of forestry; The 5thProfessor Liu Yejing Foundation Award in 2001; 1996-2000Outstanding Communist Party Memberof The Central Government Department in 2001. Main Research achievements: Proposed and developed methods of quantifying forest stand spatial structures; developed the concept of near nature forest management and creatively proposed the forest management approach of structure-based forest management; Improved theories of forest growth and harvest models. The current researchesaimat cultivating healthy and stable forest by focusing on mechanisms between forest structure and properties.Principal investigator of several research projects topics: Project of National Science & Technology Pillar Program during the Twelfth Five-year Plan Period“Sustainable forest management technics and demonstration in Northwestern and Northern China(2012-2016)”; Projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China“Sampling investigation methods of forest stand spatial structure parameters based on tree neighborhood relationships(2009-2011)”and “Species spatial distribution pattern measurement approach based on tree neighborhood relationships in multi-species mixed forest (2014-2017)”. Scientific research publications: 3 international and 3 domestic books and scientific papers published in international journals such as journal of vegetation science, forest ecology and management, forest science, etc.; as well as many Chinese papers in some key domestic journals.
