Major Scientific Achievements

  • Verncia species (Tung tress) is the source of tung oil. We conducted research on the germplasm research collection and evaluation in China, tung wiltresistant breeding, the correlation between genetic diversity and main economic traits of tung tree cultivars in China. Furthermore, we dedicated to elucidate the tung oil biosynthesis mechanism by identification of tung oil related key enzymes and mediators. Furthermore, we cooperated with Dr. Shockey in SRRC, USDA-ARS especially in the tung oil biosynthesis pathway.  
  • Litseacubeba(Lour.) Pers. is a promising industrial tree with rich essential oil in the fruit. We conducted the study on genetic variation level and pattern of L. cubebapopulations in the natural distribution areas in China. Furthermore, a system for plantlet regeneration of L. cubebawas established via adventitious buds induction from callus using stems as explants. Most importantly, several family and inbred lines of L. cubeba with high quality and production were obtained and popularization through genetic breeding and cultivation.
