Song Zhanqian, male, born on July 1st, 1942, is a researcher of Institute of Chemical Industry of Forest Product, Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

In 1964 he graduated from the Department of Polymer Chemistry, University of Science and Technology of China. From February 1983 to February 1985 and from April 1996 to October 1996 he went to the United States for further study. In 1986 he was rated as one of the national young experts with outstanding contribution and he has had special allowances from the State Council since 1991. In 1993 he was engaged as the doctoral supervisor by the Degree Council of the State Council, and in 1999 he was selected as an academician of CAE. In 2001 he was successively elected as the representative of the 10th and 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in Jiangsu Province and in 2008 elected as the member of the national committee of CPPCC. In 2009 he was awarded as one of the national outstanding talents with professional skills in the 4th selection. Now he is the chief scientist of CAF, convener of the subject consultative group of National Science Fund, president of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Society of Forest Products, and editor in chief of Chemistry and Industry of Forest Products.

In the past 40 years, he has been engaged in the chemical modification and basic research on natural resources such as oleoresin, grease and agricultural and forestal residues. He has systematically studied the chemical characteristics of over 60 kinds of oleoresin and the chemical classification of Pinus; meanwhile he studied and developed the deep processing and application of natural resources like specialized rosin for electric industry, colorless rosin, rosin-based surfactant and other deep processing products, which have gained wide application in industries of aerospace, synthetic rubber, adhesive, printing ink and coating. He has totally presided and completed 4 national natural science funds and over 30 national and municipal scientific research projects. He has won the 2nd prize of national advance in science and technology three times, the 3rd prize once, and 14 prizes of municipal advance in science and technology. He has published one monograph, engaged in editing two books and published over 300 academic papers. He has trained 6 postgraduates and 22 doctors, and supervised 4 postdoctors. He has been authorized with over 20 patents for invention at home and abroad.
