Inauguration ceremony

In the morning of 15 May, APFNet Demonstration Base for Tropical Forest Rehabilitation and Sustainable Management was inaugurated in Experimental Center of Tropical Forestry, CAF. Xia Jun, Assistant Executive Director of APFNet, Lu Wenming, Director of Division of International Cooperation, and Cai Daoxiong, Director General of Experimental Center of Tropical Forestry of CAF inaugurated the Demonstration Base. Tian Zuwei, Secretary of CPC Committee of the Experimental Center, hosted the inauguration ceremony.

Lu Wenming spoke on behalf of the CAF, and congratulated the inauguration of the Demonstration Base. He appreciated APFNet for its support and cooperation with CAF and the Experimental Center, welcomed faculty and students from APFNet internship, and introduced the basic introduction of CAF and APFNet’s collaboration with the Experimental Base in recent years. Lu Wenming said that as an experimental and demonstrational base covering the largest area, with the most tree species and the richest afforestation modes in south China, the Experimental Center developed a multi-functional close-to-nature forest management technological system with precious tree species with large DBH as the dominant, and plays a demonstrational and leading role in regeneration in karst regions and sustainable forest management in plantations. He believed that these activities would further advance the full-spectrum collaboration between CAF and APFNet.

Xia Jun said that the launch of the APFNet Demonstration Base for Tropical Forest Rehabilitation and Sustainable Management would provide a significant platform for promotion of practices, technologies, research and education of tropical forest management in the Asia-Pacific region, and lay a solid foundation for further cooperation in pilot activities, exchanges and training and information sharing in regeneration and management of tropical forests, so as to contribute to promote forest rehabilitation and sustainable forest management in the Asia-Pacific region.

Cai Daoxiong stated that the Experimental Center would use the inauguration as an opportunity to carry out research and education and scientific cooperation, in order to further strengthen its exchanges and collaboration with APFNet.

Staff from the Experimental Center and faculty and students who attended the internship of the APFNet scholarship for tropical forest management and those from Nanjing Forestry University participated in the inauguration ceremony.
