On 14 May, the CAF delegation, led by Mr. Xiao Wenfa, Vice President of CAF, participated in 2nd High-level Meeting of the Coordination Mechanism for Cooperation in Forestry Between China and the CEEC Countries and the Seminar on China-CEECs Forest Science Cooperation, held in Belgrade, Serbia. The meeting was hosted by Ms. Ljiljana Sovilj, Director of Division for Forestry, Directorate for Forestry, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Serbia. Nearly 40 research representatives from related research institutes from CEECs, including Faculty of Forestry of University of Belgrade, Institute of Lowland Forestry and Environment of University of Novi Sad, Slovenian Forestry Institute, University of Forestry of Bulgaria, Estonian University of Life Sciences, Lithuanian Forest Research Institute, Faculty of Forestry of University of Banja Luka of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Division for Tourism of Ministry of Tourism and Environment of Albania, participated in the Seminar.
Mr. Xiao Wenfa stated in his opening remarks that in 2017, the International Conference on China-CEECs Forestry Research and Education Cooperation was hosted in Beijing, which laid a solid foundation for mutual beneficial and pragmatic cooperation between research institutes in China and CEECs. Consensus was reached in research cooperation on forest cultivation and management, forest resources monitoring, and forest ecology, environment and protection. He called on all participants to propose feasible suggestions on specific cooperation approaches to promote and carry out cooperation.
The Meeting included 21 presentations and discussions. Xiao Wenfa, Zhang Zhen, Pang Yong, Lei Jingpin and Wang Yurong made presentations titled Research on ecological restoration in China and prospects of China-CEECs forestry research cooperation, Alien invasive species of forestry and the biological control in China, Forest monitoring and assessment using high-resolution remote sensing technologies, sustainable forest management in China, and Highlights and prospects of wood science research in Chinese Academy of Forestry respectively. Experts from other countries shared their current cooperation resources and feasible cooperation approaches, and exchanged views on forestry research, education and industrial cooperation.
The CAF delegation included Zhang Zhen, research fellow of Research Institute of Forest Ecology, Environment and Protection, Lei Jingpin, research fellow of Research Institute of Forestry, Pang Yong, research fellow of Research Institute of Forest Resource Information Techniques, Wang Yurong, associate research fellow of Research Institute of Wood Industry, and Chen Yujie, Deputy Director of Division of International Cooperation of CAF.
