On 7 Nov, invited by the Team of Entomopathogen, Research Institute of Forest Ecology, Environment and Protection, Prof. Zhou Xuguo, University of Kentucky, U.S., visited the Institute for academic exchanges.

At the seminar, Prof. Zhou Xuguo made a presentation titled “Assessing the Impact of Transgenic RNAi Plants on Non-target Organisms: Current Knowledge and Future Direction”, illustrating the development history of RNAi technologies, safety evaluation system of transgenic RNAi plants, RNAi’s application in pest disease prevention in global forestry, and application prospects of RNAi in biological control. The presentation provides a forward-looking and effective technical guidance for China’s forest pest disease prevention.

After the seminar, Prof. Zhou Xuguo visited the entomopathogen laboratory, and proposed academic cooperation willingness.

Prof. Zhou Xuguo received his bachelor degree from Beijing Agricultural College in 1991, master degree from China Agriculture University in 1997, and doctoral degree from University of Nebraska, U.S. in 2002. He was a postdoctoral researcher in University of Nebraska, Purdue University and University of Florida from 2003 to 2006. In 2014, he received tenure as an associate professor from University of Kentucky. His research areas are cross-disciplinary, which is to integrate molecular biology and “omics” tools with fundamental biological disciplines to address some long-standing biological questions with practical implications. He published 110 SCI articles on international academic journals including PNAS, Development, and Insect biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He co-edited one book and 7 book chapters. He has 3 international patents. Prof. Zhou Xuguo peer-reviewed several national science foundation programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, China and France. He was an editor or guest editor for several journals, including Insect Science, Scientific Reports and Journal of Economic Entomology.

More than 20 faculty and graduate students in forest protection from Research Institute of Forest Ecology, Environment and Protection attended the seminar. (Research Institute of Forest Ecology, Environment and Protection)
