Opening ceremony of “2014 Training Course on Bamboo Technology for African Countries” held in Hangzhou

The opening ceremony of “2014 Training Course on Bamboo Technology for African Countries”, a China-Aid human resource training program sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China (MOFCOM) and organized by China National Bamboo Research Center (CBRC), was held in Hangzhou on April 24. Mr. Yu Hui, Director-General of CBRC and Mr. Xia Jun, and delivered speeches. The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Ding Xingcui, Director of International Cooperation Division of CBRC.

Mr. Xia Jun, Director of Bilateral Cooperation Division of the State Forestry Administration (SFA) attended the opening ceremony and extended a warm welcome to the participants. He explained the pivotal role that forestry has been playing in modern society and spoke highly of CBRC’s efforts in providing forest-related training. He highlighted the training course as an opportunity for the participants to understand about both bamboo technology and the Chinese people and thus enhance the forestry cooperation between China and African countries.

On behalf of all the participants, Madam Frouza Mwende Maingi, a senior technical officer from Kenyan Forest Research Institute, delivered a speech. She thanked MOFCOM, SFA, Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF), Zhejiang Department of Forestry, CBRC as well as the Chinese embassies for providing such a superb training opportunity. She expressed the determination to study hard and to devote everything to bamboo industry.

24 participants from 10 African countries attended the opening ceremony, and so did the staff members of CBRC. The training course will last 56 days. CBRC will organize lectures, field trips, discussions and a variety of other activities in order to assist the participants to learn and digest various bamboo cultivation, processing and utilization technologies. Tours in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Guangdong will also be arranged to allow the foreign participants to know better about China.
