The Dragon Programme – a joint undertaking between ESA and the National Remote Sensing Center of China (NRSCC), under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China – is a wide-ranging research initiative designed to encourage increased exploitation of ESA, Third Party Mission and Chinese Earth observation satellite data within China for science and applications.

Over the past decade, the programme has significantly grown. The annual Dragon symposium - 2014 Dragon 3 Mid-term Results International Symposium held in Chengdu, China, was attended by MOST Vice Minister, Dr Cao Jianlin, and saw over 300 participants – double the number at the inaugural symposium in 2004. This programme has been recognized by both NRSCC and ESA as a model for successful scientific cooperation between Europe and China.

IFRIF as the main number of Dragon Programme, has undertaken 5 projects under the frame of Dragon Programme. Chinese PI from IFRIT, such as Prof. GaoZhihai, Prof. Chen Erxue and so on, has made the progress report on behalf of Chinese research team. Through the joint efforts of all the researchers from IFRIF, all the 5 projects have achieved gratifying results. Besides, Dr. Yan Min and Dr. Li Lan from IFRIT have gained the best paper award for young scientists.
