On March 15th 2013, Professor PENG Changhui from University of Quebec at Montreal presented his study of impact of drought to the wood dying rate and forest carbon sink at the Chinese Academy of Forestry. Professor PENG’s talk is composed of three parts. The first part sketches out the impact of drought to the wood dying rate and forest carbon sink. The second part details the statistics and analysis of the forests dying rate and the changes of carbon sink in regions of Amazon catchment, west coast of United States and west region of Canada due to the dry weather.

The third part elaborated the challenges confronted at the moment and in the future. As an overseas member of CAF’s international innovation team, Professor PENG came to Research Institute of Tropical Forestry twice in 2010 and in 2011 to investigate and provide advice. He visited Dongzhaigang Mangrove Forest Observation Station and Jianfengling Tropical Forest Ecological System Observation and Research Network in Hainan Province.

PENG holds the title of Canadian chief scientist, position of  Director of The Ecological Modeling and Carbon Science lab (ECO-MCS Lab,www.crc.uqam.ca). PENG is the originator of TRIPLEX modeling system.
