Online Seminar on Forest Carbon Sequestration and Climate Change Adaptation was Held

Liu Shirong Made a Special Report on "the Effect of Experimental Temperature

Increase and Water Reduction on Forest Soil Carbon and its Stability"

On May 20th, an online seminar on Forest Carbon Sequestration and Climate Change Adaptation jointly organized by the CAF and Forests Journal was successfully held. Researcher Liu Shirong, President of CAF, Professor Fu Yongshuo from Departement of Water Sciences of Beijing Normal University, Associate Professor Zhu Biao from Department of Urban and Environmental Sciences of Peking University and other ecological experts made special reports respectively and participated in academic exchanges.

Liu Shirong introduced the current global research progress and the research results of CAF regarding the theme of the effect of experimental temperature increase and water reduction on forest soil carbon and its stability. He shared the main conclusions that besides direct effects of temerature increase, the change of soil water and nitrogen have an important role in soil carbon decomposition and emissions as well; plant root biomass, turnover and mycorrhizal fungi on temperature changes regulated forest soil carbon process. Liu also put forward the future research direction on this seminar.

The meeting also conducted in-depth discussions on the role of forest plants in climate change.

The online seminar was broadcast simultaneously on live streaming platforms such as the Little Goose Broadcast Platform, with a total of 1,930 views. (Li Xuejiao / Department of International Cooperation )
