Dr. LIU Shirong, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, professor, chief scientist in forest ecology, leading scientist for the national trans-century science and technology, receiver of the national outstanding youth fund. Dr. LIU Shirong has got 2 second class prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 3 third class prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award at provincial or ministry level, and Young Scientists Award for the Fourth by the Chinese Society of Forestry ( CSF ). He has been chief editor and author of 10 academic monographs and published over 120 science papers both at home and abroad.
Presently, Dr. LIU holds the posts of executive member of International Union of Forest Research Organizations ( IUFRO ), deputy coordinator of the task force on forests and water interactions, member of ICSU-CHINA, member of CNC-IGBP, member of CNC-DIVERSITAS, president of the Chinese Society of Ecology ( CSE ), deputy director of Committee of Long-Term Ecology, CSE, chairman of Committee on Forest Ecology, vice chairman of Committee on Urban Forestry, CSF. He is a member of the Chinese Social Economic Council, director of Research and Management Center for China Territorial Field Ecological Observation, director of warm temperate zone Henan Tianbaoman forest ecology fixed post station, CFERN, member of academic committee of open research station for Changbaishan forest ecological system, CAS, visiting professor of Dinghushan forest ecology station, CAS, visiting professor of Beijing Normal University and Nanjing University. As well Dr. LIU is on the editorial board of Chinese journals of Applied Ecology, Plant Ecology, Forest Research, Natural Resources, Tropical and Subtropical Ecology, Forest Study and etc.
Dr. LIU chaired or chairs the project of Regulation Mechanism of Western Typical Region Forest Vegetation for Agricultural Ecological Environment of the National Key Basic Research Development Program ( 2002 -2008, project chief scientist ), the Response and Adaptation of China Main Territorial Ecological Systems to the Global Change, a major project of the National Natural Science Foundation ( 2006 – 2010, project leader ), and the Vital Technological Research and Demonstration for Forest Ecological Construction, from the Scientific and Technological Support Program in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan.
Dr. LIU has long been engaged in the study of forest ecological system and forest landscape ecology, covering productivity ecology, nutrient cycling, restoration ecology, ecological hydrology, the impact of global change to forest and etc.
