At the invitation of Mr. Li Yide, Research Fellow and Director-General of Jianfengling State-level Forest Ecological Station, Dr. Ying Ouyang, a hydro-ecologist from the Southern Research Station, Forest Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, paid a visit to Jianfengling Ecological Station, and advised on forest-hydro research.

Dr. Ying Ouyang visited 3 forest-hydro monitoring and research facilities, including the flow-measuring weir of the integrated forest water-collecting zone covering 100 km², the flow-measuring weir of the tropical rainforest water-collecting zone covering 220 ha, and the flow-measuring weir of the secondary tropical rainforest water-collecting zone covering 3.01 ha. During the visit, Dr. Ying Ouyang discussed with related researchers and postgraduates at Jianfengling on the research progress and functions and roles of forests in water conservation and purification. He also commented and advised on the facility building and instruments and equipment of the forest-hydro research there, and was engaged in discussions on demonstrating academic values of the acquired hydro data.

During his visit, Dr. Ying Ouyang made two impressing academic reports for researchers and postgraduates at Jianfengling Ecological Station, “Estimate impacts of agricultural/ reforestation practices and climate change on hydrology and water quality in Southeast USA and South China”, “How to Read, Prepare and Publish SCI (ESI) Papers”.

Mr. Li Yide, Research Fellow, and Dr. Zhou Zhang from Jianfengling Ecological Station escorted Dr. Ying Ouyang during his visit. They discussed future cooperation and research possibilities in hydro-forest and forest’s ecological functions, including water production and purification, in the context of climate change and precipitation pollution of nitrogen and phosphorus.
