Expert from Canadian Ministry of Agriculture Conducted Academic Exchanges in Institute of Desertification Studies

Dr. Wang Sen is givinga lecture

On 18 Apr, Dr. Wang Sen, Vice President of the Brandon Research and Development Center, Ministry of Agriculture, Canada, was invited for academic exchanges in the Institute of Desertification Studies, CAF. Dr. Wang Sen talked with faculty and students from the Institute on his understanding of environmental protection, and gave a lecture, Walden by Henry David Thoreau, and its influence onenvironmental activities in the U.S.

Henry David Thoreau became renowned by Walden, while Walden Pond Thoreau. Thoreau went away from city noises, to feel and reflect by the Pond, with a mind towards nature. With beautiful words, he recorded his life there, and showed the meaning of simple living. Thoreau’s feelings and ideas influenced more and more American people, thus, lifted the curtain of environmental activities in the U.S. Dr. Wang Sen also shared his experience when he followed his heart to visit Walden Pond, so that his audience got a second-hand experience.

After the lecture, the audience discussed with Dr. Wang Sen on the source and evolvement of the environmental activities in the U.S. They agreed the fact that they cannot experience the solitude in the woods like Thoreau, and that Walden Pond was not the same as it used to be will not stop us from owning a crystal-clear Walden Pond in our mind, which can purify our spirit from time to time.

Dr. Wang Sen is the Vice President of the Brandon Research and Development Center, Ministry of Agriculture, Canada. It is located in City Brandon, Province of Manitoba, set up more than 130 years ago. The priorities of Brandon are seed-breeding of wheat and grain, and cultivating techniques of modern agriculture. Dr. Wang Sen received his doctorate degree in forestry economics from University of British Columbia, Canada, and is hired as the visiting professor of the University of Toronto. His main research areas include forest economics, sustainable forestry, resource economics, and neo-institutional economics. He published 1 treatise and over 50 theses.
