Two Experts From CSIRO, Australia Visited Research Institute of Tropical Forestry CAF for Academic Communication

From October 21 to 26, Dr. David Bush, head of Australian Tree Seed Centre CSIRO and Scientist Khongsak Pinyopuarerk came to the Research Institute of Tropical Forestry CAF to communicate academic ideas on genetic improvements of foreign trees like eucalyptus, acacia and casuarina. The invitation was sent by Research Institute of Tropical Forestry’s nation-sponsored program “Fundamental Study on Heredity of Important Eucalyptus Parental Mating”, Guangdong’s Forestry Science and Technology Innovation Program “Study and Modeling of Key Selective Breeding Technologies of Casuarina, the Main Spieces of Coast Trunk Shelterbelt” and “Enhancement of Forest’s Sustainable Management and Innovation”, key program of Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs’ 2016 Plan of Importing Foreign Technology and Management Talents.

On the academic meeting, Dr. David Bush made his report titled “Studies and Trends of Genetic Improvements on Australian Eucalyptus and Acacia” at the Research Institute of Tropical Forestry CAF. More than 20 researchers and graduate students attended the speech and discussed the issue and their own studies in China with foreign experts.

As to field survey, David Bush and Khongsak Pinyopuarerk visited the demonstration forest in cooperative units (Xinhui Research Institute of Forestry of Jiangmen City Guangdong; Leizhou’s State-owned Research Institute of Forestry) and co-built bases, including test plantation of eucalyptus hybrid offspring, clonal test plantation, selective breeding base of acacia, test forest of acacia mangium, provenance family test forest of eucalyptus and clonal demonstration forest, etc. With company of researchers from Research Institute of Tropical Forestry, the foreign experts went to Eucalyptus Centre to have academic meetings with Xie Yaojian, Head of the Centre and Researcher Luo Jianzhong and other Chinese experts. They also visited the eucalyptus demonstration forest in Southern Seedling Production Base. The Australian experts spoke highly of the works done in fields like selective breeding of eucalyptus and acacia and construction of experiment centers and gave some advices on related research. Both sides expressed wishes to have more cooperation and communication in the future.

Researcher Zhong Chonglu and Assistant Researcher Lu Zhaohua accompanied the Australian experts during their visit to the Research Institute of Tropical Forestry CAF. Researcher Huang Shineng, Senior Engineer Chen Zuxu, the Director and Deputy Directors of Xinhui Research Institute of Forestry Huang Hongjian, Tan Peitao and Huyang, Director and Deputy Director of Leizhou’s State-owned Research Institute of Forestry, Researcher Luo Jianzhong from Eucalyptus Centre also attended the field survey and academic communication.
