IUFRO Regional Congress for Asia and Oceania Closed with Success

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) Regional Congress for Asia and Oceania was closed with success on Oct 27th in China National Convention Center, Beijing. Mr. Wingfield, President of IUFRO,Mr. Björn Hånell and Mr. John Parrott, Vice Presidents of IUFRO, Mr. Alexander Buck, Executive Director of IUFRO, and Mr. Liu Shirong, Vice President of CAF, were present at the closing ceremony. Mr. Lu Wenming hosted the ceremony.

The Congress lasted for four days, attracting more than 1000 silvi-culturists, foresters and policy-makers from over 60 countries. 90 scientific sessions with 530 oral presentations and 200 posters were presented. The Congress played a significant role in promoting innovation in forestry science and technology and forest recovery, growth and forestry development in the Asia-Pacific region, and enhancing global ecological governance and co-governance of forest ecological security.

Mr. John Parrott presented the Beijing Declaration, Forests for Sustainable Development: The Role of Research.

Best poster was voted, and all organizations and individuals who had contributed to the Congress were appreciated for their efforts.

This Congress is one of the best in the history of IUFRO. I appreciate the hard work and contribution made by CAF for the success of the Congress. This is the largest regional congress during the past 124 years since the founding of IUFRO. It has milestone importance to IUFRO, Mr. Wingfield said in the closing ceremony.
