On invitation from the Lacquer Application Group of Institute of Chemical Industry of Forest Products, Professor Miyakoshi Tetsuo and Professor Lu Rong visited ICIFP for academic purposes.

During their visit, Professor Miyakoshi made academic report named “Analysis of Ancient Ryukyu Japans With Modern Spectrum Technology”. He introduced briefly the history of japans and how to analyze the types of lacquer and chemical crafts of the japans with spectrum techniques. Professor Lu Rong made his report of “Composition Analysis of Viet-nam’s Lacquer”, in which he described how the chemical composition of Viet-Nam’s lacquer and how it’s different from China and Japan’s lacquers.

Through academic communication like that, the Chinese researchers got a more comprehensive view on the types and physicochemical properties of Southeast Asian lacquers, and the key techniques of lacquer’s separation, analysis and structural identification.

The professors also visited the Plant Extract Lab in ICIFP, and conversed with members of the study group. Both sides introduced their works in the field of lacquer, and the foreign experts gave valuable guidelines for future studies on lacquer derivatives and lacquer bio-extracts.
