According to the official notifications from the International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS), Prof. Jiang Jianchun, from the Research Institute of Chemical Processing and Utilization of Forest Products, Prof. YE Kelin and Prof. LU Jianxiong, from the Research Institute of Wood Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF), are newly elected as Fellows of IAWS in 2010 and 2011. Up to now, there are 8 fellows of IAWS in CAF and CAF has been a supporting member to IAWS since 2007.

IAWS is a non-profit assembly of wood scientists, recognizing all fields of wood science with their associated technological domains, and securing a worldwide representation. It was founded in Paris, June 2, 1966. IAWS has the objective of promoting on the international level the concerted development of wood science.

New fellows are elected by the fellows of IAWS each year by the prescribed rules i.e. reccomended by one fellow and supported by letters of several fellows, evaluated by the Executive Committee and approved as fellow candidate by the Academy Board, which then are elected by voting of all the fellows, needing a three fourths support from the voters.

Presently, IAWS has a total of 320 fellows, who are mainly distributed in Europe, North America and Japan.
