Author:     Time: 2021-12-27

On December 8th, the online seminar, Holding Forests Accountable - APFNet Forest Carbon Accounting Zoom Webinar, was held by the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet). The theme of this seminar was forest carbon accounting. Jiang Chunqian, researcher from Research Institute of Forestry, was invited to make a report on "Carbon Accounting of the Demonstration Models of Hill and Mountain Forest Restoration and Sustainable Management in Southern China", introducing the progress of the international carbon accounting methods and the carbon accounting results of the demonstration model of the project area (Zhejiang Province and Anhui Province).

Global climate change leads to environmental changes that affect human social and economic activities. Forests play an important role in addressing global climate change. The forestry sector can contribute to the adaptation of climate change through cost-effective methods such as afforestation, sustainable forest management, reducing deforestation and degradation.

Based on this, APFNet has launched five forest carbon accounting projects in China, the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and Southeast Asian economies. APFNet provides a platform for the communication among projects, deepens the project participants' understanding of the forest carbon accounting methods and improves the social impact of the project.
